Embossing is the process used to create a raised impression on paper or cardboard that has already been printed, and the impression area can be raised to varying heights for dimensional impact.
This process is undertaken on the letterpress using die formes which impress the image into the underside of the stock.
Blind embossing is the embossing of stock that contains no printed image in the raised area.
Embossing and foil stamping can be combined for a great visual effect of raised and foil-stamped images. Foil embossing can also be referred to as combo emboss or registered emboss.
Debossing is the process used to create a sunken impression on paper or cardboard, and the impression area can be impressed to varying levels for dimensional impact.
This process is undertaken on the letterpress using die formes which impress the image into the facing side of the stock.
Blind debossing is the debossing of stock that contains no printed image in the impressed area.
